Who We Are: Bryan Peckinpaugh


Bryan Peckinpaugh has broad public relations experience and a vast perspective of the Detroit region, the state of Michigan and the public service sector. He worked in non-profit PR for a decade and has been leading his own government/community/sports public relations consulting firms for the past four years. As the Public Affairs & Marketing Director at the American Red Cross in Detroit, Peckinpaugh co-developed and led the effective Home Team PSA Campaign that included major Detroit pro athletes as spokespeople, including Detroit Tiger Justin Verlander and former Detroit Red Wing Kirk Maltby. It received national recognition and was adopted by other metro Red Cross chapters including Miami. In collaboration with volunteers, Peckinpaugh led the Blanket Days for the Homeless campaign from a small one-day collection event to a region-wide holiday campaign with corporate and media support – increasing donations by 400% in two years. He also developed the first volunteer-led crisis communications team that became a national model, consulted and trained executives in media relations, and chaired a regional communications council for the Red Cross. Further, he significantly increased corporate and media support overall during his time there.

Peckinpaugh graduated from an intensive, two-year national Red Cross executive training program – he was the youngest participant. During nearly 10 years at the Red Cross, he built relationships with media, government, corporate, and non-profit sectors, becoming respected for crafting engaging campaigns and compelling stories along with an inate abilty to tackle a variety of situtations.

In 2009, Peckinpaugh served as the Electronic Communication/Social Media Manager for the successful Gary Brown for Detroit City Council campaign. His work included developing and managing a website, leading all social media properties, crafting e-newsletters, and writing video scripts and robo calls. He also led social media strategy and provided communication support to former DetroitBryan Peckinpaugh and Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Gary A. Brown Deputy Mayor Freman Hendrix during both his Detroit Mayoral and Charter Revision Commission campaigns in 2009. Both clients continue to use Peckinpaugh’s talents, focused on engaging citizens in their efforts through e-newsletters, social media and traditional media.

In 2010, Peckinpaugh led the social media campaign for Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon along with crafting his campaign literature and commercials. He developed a social media campaign for Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara. Further, Peckinpaugh created and implemented an Internet communication strategy for Legal Aid & Defender Association in Detroit, the largest non-profit law firm in Michigan.

In addition to being the principle at Evolve-Engage Strategies, based in Detroit, Peckinpaugh launched Moto Public Relations (MotoPR) in 2007 to provide public relations for action sports athletes, teams and events. The company has successfully grown its client base and has retained four of its best practice PR consulting clients for four consecutive years. As of spring 2011, the two agencies hold a roster of 11 clients and two pro bono clients.

Peckinpaugh is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. He attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, known nationally for its academics. Peckinpaugh is an avid runner, having finished in the Detroit Free Press Marathon and two half marathons, and also enjoys motorcycling and outdoor sports. He continues to volunteer with the Red Cross and is involved with other local organizations including Kensington Community Church.
